Clan Donald Magazine No 3 (1965) Online
Reginald Henry Macdonald of Kingsburgh.
The death of Reginald Henry Macdonald XV of Kingsburgh and Castle Camus, High Commissioner (Ard Toshachdeor) Clan Donald in the United States, was a great loss to Clan Donald. His enthusiasm and energy were a source of inspiration to all who worked with him on Clan affairs.
Born at Christchurch, New Zealand in 1891, Kingsburgh had a distinguished military career spent for the most part in India. Retiring with the rank of Major he went to the United States of America in the 1920's and became a citizen of the United States in 1940.
After visiting Scotland to attend the unveiling of the memorial to his great-great-grandmother Flora Macdonald at her birthplace in South Uist in 1954, he was appointed High Commissioner of Clan Donald in the United States by Lord Macdonald to organise the clan there. He founded also the Clan Donald Educational and Charitable Trust which was created for the improvement of the happy relationship existing between Scotland and the United States of America by educational, literary, scientific, charitable and religious means.
Footnote: Reginald Henry's claim to be XV of Kingsburgh is contested by Major Angus P. Macdonald in Johannesburg. The Lord Lyon admits this, as Angus is the descendant of a 4th brother, Reginald Henry was of a 5th/6th brother. - R.M.G. 6th November 1965.
